Our Vision

A Global Vision for the Future of Humanity

The UC-Berkeley Center for the Study of Global Muslim Life is a research center and cultural incubator for cutting edge transdisciplinary conversations across diverse Muslim communities working to create a more just, diverse, and sustainable future for all of humanity.

The Muslim Studies Center at UC-Berkeley brings together a diverse set of researchers, community organizers, cultural strategists, artists, and policy makers from throughout the United States and from around the world working on key issues in global Muslim communities. The Muslim Studies Center is focused on the unique set of issues facing one of the largest and most diverse religious communities on the planet, while asking the key questions in the role Muslims are playing in creating a more just, diverse, and sustainable future for all of humanity.

UC-Berkeley is a unique home for this institute as the university and surrounding universities yearly graduate some of the top Muslim talent in the world who are leaders in diverse fields of academia, business, technology, research, community organizing, policy, medicine, and many unique related fields. Despite this there is no entity within the UC system engaging this unique alumni network in any in depth capacity like the Muslim Studies center will provide. The Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society is the perfect home to incubate this center as the research groups overlap with many of our unique interests and will allow us the space to build this center over the coming years.
