Production Studio & Cultural Incubator

The Center for Global Muslim Life will build an in house production studio to drive narrative production ourselves. With a strong background in digital media production we will launch the center with a strong digital publishing presence that will range from written articles, to short film productions, podcasts, and print publications. This will allow the Center to speak beyond the walls of the ivory tower while build a strong transnational brand that can create unique conversations about global Muslim life. We will also create fellowship programs within the Center that will allow for cultural creatives to work within the confines of leading cultural and universities to produce work that may not otherwise find support.

A Prayer Beyond Borders Film

Along the thousand-plus mile US/Mexico border there is only one place where families who have been separated by immigration policies have the ability to meet. At Friendship Park in Tijuana/ San Diego, the Border Church has committed to holding a binational service every Sunday to protect the right of families to meet in person. The Muslim community, similarly inspired to stand for justice in the borderlands, joined the Border Church to pray at the most militarized border in the world and to create a Border Mosque. This is the story of people coming together, across borders, across communities, across faiths, across languages, to stand united for justice and pray beyond borders.

THe global Muslim Film Festival

The Global Eid Virtual Film Festival is a celebration of global Muslim life during the month when we join together in worship, community, and celebration of faith and life. For most of the world, this Ramadan will be unlike any other as we are in quarantine in our homes and unable to join together in our public acts of worship and celebration. The Global Eid Film Festival is built for the community to come together in a celebration of Muslim life, faith, art, and culture and a unique way for us to come together online through film.

ummah builders

At this time of great global crisis we want to talk to the future builders about how to transform our world. Ummah Builders is beginning as a live show hosted by Dustin Craun, the founder of the Center for Global Muslim Life, featuring scholars, artists, entrepreneurs, and change makers from around the world who are creating communities through social movements, companies, institutions, and art. Over the next year we plan to turn this into a short video series like the first film in the series about Fuad Nahdi

The Beyond borders Digital media academy

Malcolm X famously stated, “A culture that is not in control of their own narrative will forever live at the mercy of another’s pen.” The Malcolm X media fellowship program work to train the next generation of narrative producers while also creating opportunities for more senior storytellers within the global Muslim community.

MUSLIM HEalers & FrontLiners

In the United States alone there are more than 50,000 Muslim doctors, with hundreds of thousands of Muslim health professionals in Western countries. There is also a historical and emerging field of Muslim wellness that mixes traditional Islamic knowledge with Western and at times Chinese medicine. In this live series we talk to Muslim health professionals and healers from around the world about the Muslim response to the COVID 19 pandemic, and how Prophetic healing is evolving in the twenty-first century.
